We want you to be a part of this exciting and innovative connected electricity network.

We are looking for 300 more homes to join this VPP project and be a part of research which will show us how the grid can integrate with renewables to maximise grid efficiency and reduce electricity costs for all Australians.

What's in it for you?

  • Earn money on your excess solar power - you will be paid by Evergen $10.00 per month
  • Plus $1.00 p/kWh when your battery participates in a VPP Event
  • Saves you even more money on your electricity bills
  • Share excess clean power and support the grid

What is a VPP?
A virtual power plant is a network of homes with battery storage connected through smart technology.

How does a VPP work?
As electricity supply & demand changes on the national grid, this network of connected homes join together to support the grid, either by releasing energy onto it, or storing energy from it. In return, participating homes are paid an incentive each time their battery storage is called on in this way. The ultimate goal of a VPP is to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by enabling more reliable use of renewables and with this, delivering cheaper electricity for all Australians.

FAQs

The Evergen & Ausgrid Virtual Power Plant is a network of energy storage systems working together to provide energy to the grid when it’s needed most. Each home battery in the network is called upon to charge and/or release energy to the grid in times of need, referred to as 'events'.

When Evergen & Ausgrid activate signals to each home battery through Evergen technology, the stored energy in each of the batteries is released onto the grid. In return, participating homes are paid an incentive each time we call on their battery. If there is insufficient charge in your battery for the event, we will charge it up ahead of time using electricity drawn from the grid, at your usual tariff. This will enable you to participate in the event and earn the incentive.

How much customers earn will depend upon the number of VPP events that occur. Evergen & Ausgrid trial participants are paid by Evergen $10.00 per month + every time we dispatch your excess power to Ausgrid, a rate of $1.00 p/ kWh.

If you are interested in your home battery being part of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) trial with Evergen & Ausgrid, register below to participate.

All payments are paid directly into your nominated bank account by Evergen each month.

Any customer who is benefiting from Evergen’s Intelligent Control software, is currently on the Ausgrid network and is not currently participating in another VPP trial, can participate as long no one in the household requires life support equipment.

Unfortunately, for this trial, anyone who wishes to participate must be on the Ausgrid network. If you're not on the Ausgrid network but wish to participate in another trial in the future, keep an eye on your inbox and we'll notify you when an eligible VPP becomes available.

Yes, VPP trial participants do need to have Evergen’s Intelligent Control software installed which requires an Alpha ESS, LG Chem (with SolarEdge Inverter) or Tesla Powerwall battery, and a solar array.

You are still able to use electricity as normal. During an event, Evergen & Ausgrid will only access the energy in your battery system.

We’ll provide an update about the trial every month, along with payment for each event directly into your bank account. If you have any questions about the event, you can contact us here.

During an energy event, you are helping the grid remain stable and work as it should. To do this your battery will discharge but we will always leave you with at least 20% charge for use by your home. By participating in a VPP event, you are generously compensated $10.00 per month + every time we dispatch your excess power to Ausgrid, a rate of $1.00 p/ kWh.

Yes, you can still access and control your battery settings, however an energy event will take priority over those settings when they occur.

Yes, if you change your mind about being involved in the trial you can opt-out by providing 30 days notice by clicking here
